What is precious metal clay?
Precious metal clay, or PMC as it is commonly known, is comprised of pure silver or gold particles, organic binder and water. It handles and feels very much like porcelain clay, and can be rolled, molded, carved and textured to achieve unlimited designs. After working and drying, the clay is fired. The organic binder burns off, leaving the fine silver (.999) piece. At this stage, 24k gold may be added using an ancient techinique known as keum boo. The pieces are then polished and sometimes oxidized to add a warm patina.
